Do all nikon cameras have slow shooting speed?

I was playing with different Nikon cameras and it seems after you take a picture it pauses for quite some time. I like Nikons for other features and ease of use but this part annoys me. Is this a function that can be adjusted? I need a new camera($150-175) and had a Canon previosly. Any other product recommendations?

You are asking about shutter lag, not speed. All point and shoot digital camera have unacceptable shutter lag. The ones that will have the least amount are those that have a sports mode. Look for that, it might be Nikon or Canon or Panasonic or Fuji --- just use that as a criteria for choosing a camera. You might also be sure that there's a viewfinder other than the LCD monitor, as it is the LCD that causes part of the problem.

That's correct. You're looking at the bottom of the market cameras - all are slow in lag time. A faster card will help a little after the shot is taken but not with lag time. Brand and model doesn't matter - all cheap cameras are like this.
dslr cameras, beginning at about $650, are the fastest out there. With a class 10 card these cameras are so fast you almost can't stop them.
Even in this economy you do still get what you pay for. Buy cheap, get cheap.

The Fuji S2950 I owned had s shutter lag of 0.8sec, which was awful. In comparison, the Nikon P&S cameras I have are about 0.2sec., which compares with the Canon SX130 I replaced the S2950 with.
Not outstanding but a lot better than the S2950.

Have a look at Canon PowerShot SX130IS or even Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS
