I have an Olympus FE-340, used it for about 3 years and have Had no complaints at all. Since it's a few years old there are probably newer and better models out by now to replace it. It's 8.0 mega pixels so the pictures are sharp and clear and it has a 5X optical zoom. The chip capacity is 999 pictures. I think I paid right around $100.00 for it.
Look at O.com, I've had good luck buying from them.

For many of us, a "normal" camera is a dSLR. They cost around $650 for the least expensive, entry level camera like the Nikon D3100. A true professional Nikon like the D3 costs in excess of $5, 300 without a lens.

Look at Best Buy. They seem to have the best prices at this time. If you belong to Costco or Sam's Club, you can get good deals on entry level dSLR's that come with two lenses

Take a look at the Nikon D3100, its a great entry-level DSLR and i believe would do what you're looking for. The quality of pictures and videos would be unquestionable excellent and its surely the best bang for the buck. I suggest you read this review to help you make a decision:

If that is out of your budget and you don't want a DSLR, than i'd recommend this bridge camera by Nikon, its a really good point and shoot camera with 21x NIKKOR Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens which will create amazing zoom shots and videos. Take a look:
