Cheap high resolution cameras?

I don't have a lot of money really just 300- 400 dollars (Usually more like 200 - 300). I need a pretty high resolution camera. I don't need a 1500 dollar Nikon or anything and I don't need those features like a blur on the background as I'm a Graphic Designer so I can make those effects. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of cameras in my price range. I'm trying to get into photography. I'm not sure if I'll stay with it so I don't want to buy an expensive camera. I'll post an additional details thing if you have any questions.

The highest resolution (in megapixels) cameras tested by Consumer Reports recently goes up to 18mp, but cameras in the $200-400 range have up to 16mp. Among the subcompact cameras, the Nikon Coolpix S8000 ($220 list) has 14mp, 3" LCD screen, 10X optical zoom, and is rated as a Best Buy. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX700 is similar, but has only a 5X zoom. If you can afford a bit more, the Nikon Coolpix L120 ($270) has 14mp and a 21X zoom. All of the 30 subcompacts and superzoom cameras tested were check-rated, so I would suggest buying or borrowing a copy of the December 2011 Consumer Reports magazine to scope out the details in order to make the best choice.
