Canon aperture control in live view mode?
In Canon DSLR cameras are you able to change the aperture while recording video in live view mode? I know for some Nikons (D7100 and below I believe) you have to exit out of live view, change the aperture, then reenter it.
So what exactly is your question?
You appear to have already answered it yourself.
You do know, I hope, that in order for your camera to shoot video that is well exposed, the only exposure control is the lens aperture or ISO setting.
If you start stopping down the lens, the ISO will automatically increase, adding noise to your video.
It is much better to meter the scene and then use the appropriate lens aperture at 24 fps (cine) or 30 fps (NTSC video) Inconsistencies in video quality from scene to scene it very unsettling to the viewer
I would be guessing that you can change the aperture in all Canon cameras while in video mode…
Just thought i'd let you know how to get round the problem with a Nikon though… Use a manual lens with actual aperture control on the lens… On the D5000 and D3000 series you would be shooting blind, because these cameras don't meter with manual lenses… If you know what you are doing you can actually achieve some really decent results.
Where there's a 'will' there's a way… With the right approach you will get round any problem.
