Hi - looking for opinions about DGSLR cameras. I'm looking to invest in a new camera and the more I read reviews the more confused I'm. So I'm looking for objective opinions about canon & nikon cameras, Looking to spend about about 1k including glass. Perhaps you have already made the jump and have an opinion? Suggestions?

Nikon and Cannon are deffinetly the way to go. Fujifilm cameras are OK but you can't take pictures inside because the lighting makes them look blurry. The canon Rebel series are great but it all depends on how you will use your camera. A camera with 16mp and 30 times zoom may cos $600, but if you don't need so much zoom then a camera with 16mp and 15 times zoom might cost $500

Canon and Nikon are both the tops of the consumer DSLR world. You can't go wrong with either.

here are the Lineups that I suggest

Nikon D3100, D5100, and D90. If you can stretch your budget a tad more to 1100 pounds, you can get the D7000, which is definitely one of the best, if not, the best in that price range.

for Canon, look at the 550D, 600D, 60D, and if you stretch your budget to 1400 pounds, the 7D opens up

if you are focusing on shooting stills and want to stay under 1000 pounds, the 60D from Canon and D90 from Nikon would be the better choices, especially since they have a second scroll wheel to control aperture and shutter speed separately, which makes a world of difference. If you are planning to do video, the absolute best would be the Canon 7D, but if you want to stay in budget, any of the canon's will have the same quality, and you can also look at the D5100

Ultimately, it comes down to what you feel is best for you. Go to a camera store and check out what feels good in your hands, which one has the features you want, is comfortable for you to use, and is at a reasonable price.

as for lenses, stick to the lens that comes with the camera until you know what other kinds of photography you want to shoot. There's no use in getting a telephoto lens right away when you want to do landscape or cityscape shots.
