Camera for photography?

I was looking to buy a camera to start doing for photography. Obviously I'm just a beginner, but hopefully I could get good enough to start doing weddings or something. I don't want to go too fancy, but I was looking at a Nikon D3400 DSLR Camera 24.2MP. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good start.

The Nikon D3400 is an entry level camera, a very good choice, too. It comes with a kit zoom lens that will give you plenty of variety in focal distance perspective so you won't have to be getting closer or moving away from your subject. I urge you to read the camera's Instructions Manual with your camera next to you so you can find out about the features, functions and options it offers, where to find them, and when and how to use them to your advantage. In fact, once you start familiarizing yourself with the camera, you can take a GREAT shortcut to learning photography by taking a bona fide, organized Beginner's Photography class… What you learn in 12 to 14 hours of instructions is about what you'd learn in about 7 to 8 month through frustrating (often discouraging) trial and error. Oh, the classes are all about common sense, nothing to memorize and you'll be able to pick up just about any camera and quickly master it. You'll also learn the basic fundamentals of photography (starting with aperture, shutter speed & ISO), composition, tricks to overcome difficult lighting situations and HOW to use light and shadows to get better images. So, good luck and best wishes, but most importantly, HAVE FUN!

All dSLRs are good and you can shoot anything with any dSLR but picture quality will depend on your skill. The camera is only a tool.

The term "entry-level" does not refer to skill. It pertains to budget which in this case means the cheapest. Entry-level dSLRs are the most difficult to use even if you know exactly what you are doing.

If this is your first dSLR and you know nothing about photography, I suggest you start with a mid-level model like the Nikon D7200 or D7500, the Canon 70D or 80D, or the Pentax K50 or K70. It increases the chance that you will enjoy shooting pictures.

Choosing a dSLR is easy. Just buy the most expensive you can afford. If you can buy full-frame now, better.

It will be a good camera but for my taste I prefer my Canon t6i. Works excellent and have taken extraordinary photos with it.

I personally am not a fan of Nikon's D3xxx series of cameras. The only reason I feel this way is because Nikon has removed the focusing motor from this series of cameras. This forces you to use specific lenses and makes purchasing lenses *(especially used ones) very confusing. I mean, why pay more for a camera that has been stripped down just to have "N-I-K-O-N" written on it. Either go with one the Nikon D5xxx series of cameras, or choose anything from Pentax or Canon. Personally, I've shot Canon in the past and I now shoot Pentax, so I'm probably partial to those brands to some degree. But when you compare the entry level and mid level Pentax DSLRs to Canon and Nikon, most reviewers give Pentax DSLRs the nod for being best in class.
