An olympus camera with a nikon lens?
Could I take an olympus om10 camera and put a nikon 18-55mm lens on it? I have no idea about camera so I was thinking of buying the body of the olympus and putting my nikon lens on, would it fit/work?
Nikon lenses (or any lenses) are specificly built to there own make
You will have no aperture control, making the entire setup practically useless. Not to mention that the 18-55mm lens is a DX lens and will only expose part of the 35mm frame.
why not get olympus lenses?
No. Just get an Olympus lens.
No, it won't fit.
The OM10 uses the proprietary OM mount. The Nikon lens uses the proprietary Nikon mount. Any OM mount lens will fit your Olympus. They are easy enough to find second hand and inexpensive.
Another answer suggests you will have no aperture control. I think they are mistaken as the lens will just not attach to the OM10 camera.
No, each manufacturer uses his own mount ( and these can change over time - Canon used a completely new mount when autofocus came in. Pentax changed from M42 screw mount to K bayonet in 1975. The differences between a 1975 Pentax lens and its modern counterpart are astounding, even if both technically fit the same cameras).
An Olympus camera needs Olympus lenses (Zuiko) or third-party lenses designed for its mount.
If you want a camera for your nikon lens - buy a nikon camera.
No. Apart from the mounts being different and therefore need adaption, you wouldn't want to do it because:
1) 18-55 is electric only. That means you'll get a dumb lens with no aperture.
2) 18-55 is DX, that means you won't get an image which fills the frame, instead a big black circle around the edges.
3) Most critically, OM mount has a longer registry than Nikon F, coupled with a small throat you won't get infinity focus if you found some way of adapting.
There's no point anyway when a perfectly good OM 50mm f1.8 is around £10.
Mmm there are always adapters that make things possible. YET
Better not to! Unless it is an adapter to use an old mount or maybe something juicy like the M mount. Then it just probably not worth it!
Not to mention even if you find an OM to F adapter things like auto focus might not work…
And really the 18-55mm. Is not that special. There's enough OM glass better then the basic kitlens.
If you have nikon lenses buy a nikon body! And the 18-55 is a very basic kitlens.nothing special. It is not terrible. But not great either. It just is what it is!
- Which is better. Olympus E-PM1 (14-42mm lens) OR Nikon d3000 (18-55mm lens)?
