No 35mm lens for canon?

Joey

I just bought a Rebel T2i as my first Dslr, and I have the Kit lens, and the EF 50mm f.1.8 II. But while i was deciding what body to purchase, i was looking at some nikons and saw that it seemed like nikon had more options for lenses. They had the 35mm 1.8g aswell as the 50mm 1.8g and i can't seem to find a 35mm for the canon that doesn't cost like $400. When the nikons is half that. Why is that? Thanks for any answers and sorry for the noob question.

The cost of lenses from Nikon and Canon do vary, but some Nikon lenses cost more than a similar Canon lens

This has to do with both the design, cost of manufacturing and number of units sold by each company.

As you can see, from the links to Canon and Nikon how those prices differ from lens type to lens type

Just the way things are made, like anything really. I bought a 35mm Canon lens in the UK for well under the equivalent of $400

So you want a 35mm lens to mount on your EOS T2i SLR? OK, if you have deep pockets, why not duplicate what you already have? You purchased this camera with the Kit lens. This is a general purpose zoom lens that covers the range of 18mm thru 55mm. In other words you can set the zoom on the lens you already have to 35mm.

First, the camera lens acts like a projector lens, it projects a miniature image of the outside world on the surface of an image sensor located inside and at the rear of the camera. Now different camera models have different size sensors and you need to know that we fit lens - a. Based on sensor size b. Based on the angle of view c. Based on how big or small an image the lens projects d. How bright will the projected image be.

First we fit the camera with a "normal" lens. What is "normal" for my camera? Your camera sports a sensor that measures 14.9mm height by 22.2mm length. We fit a normal lens based on the diagonal measure of this rectangle. This measurement is 27mm. OK to round this up to 30mm. What I what you to know is, mounting a 30mm or thereabout delivers a "normal" view. By "normal" we mean not wide-angle and not telephoto. Note the kit lens you have, 18mm thru 55 centers up on 35mm. Thus you already have this focal length.

What is wide-angle and telephoto for this mode? Wide-angle is a lens 70% of "normal. For your camera that's 20mm or shorter. Note your kit lens set to minimum zoom is 18mm so you can take moderate wide-angle pictures. If you want more, chose a lens shorter than your existing 18mm setting.

What is telephoto for your camera? Telephoto is 200% of normal. For your camera, that's 55mm or longer. So you already have a moderate telephoto if you set your kit lens at maximum zoom. If you want more magnification, buy a loner than 55m lens.

What to buy? If you want to do landscape and seascape, buy a wide-angle. If you want to shoot sports and animal life, buy a telephoto. By the way, if you what to shoot super-duper portraits, set your lens at 55mm.

What I really want you do is, a little more research before you send your hard to get money.
