My J1 camera suddenly doesn't turn on?

My Nikon J1 camera was working fine just a moment before, but when I charged my battery for a few minutes, it stopped working all of a sudden. The camera won't turn on at all. When I put the battery back on the charger, the charger's green light began to have an irregular twitching green light. Upon putting the battery back into my camera again, it still does not work. I've used the camera for months now, and this happened all of a sudden. What is wrong?

If the charger is flashing a rapid green, it means the battery can't be charged.

Feel the battery and see if it is warm. If it is, wait awhile for it to cool down and try charging it again.

If it still won't charge, the battery is probably bad.

Rechargeable batteries these days are pretty reliable, but you can still kill them if you do not practice good battery management.

The worst thing you can do is to over-discharge the battery. Here is a scenario… Say you are taking photographs and the camera tells you the battery is exhausted (or turns off). But you need to take that extra photo, so you turn the camera off and back on and take a photo. And the camera turns off again, so you turn it on again for one more photo…

If you do this kind of thing, you are damaging the battery and it will shorten the life of the battery.

In conclusion, I would say with a 95% certainty that your battery is bad (due to the fast blink on the charger). Alternatively, the charger could be bad, but that is not as likely as the battery.

So replacing the battery is the first step. And while you may be tempted to do so, do not buy a cheaper 3rd party battery. Such a battery is not matched to the charger, and you will have the same issues again.
