How to autofocus on video Nikon d5200?
Ok so hi! I'm doing YouTube stuff and recently I've had trouble trying to autofocus in video. Up until now I've had to hold the shutter button to auto focus which is a pain. How do I set my camera settings on my 2015 model Nikon d5200 so that when I'm trying to focus in video it will do that by itself without me pushing any buttons.
It's not a camcorder so autofocus is like that. It would be better to focus manually anyway. If you really wanted autofocus, a cheap Sony Handycam would do better (and shoot much longer too).
Read manual that came on the CD with your camera. It will tell you everything you need to know about the camera.
In the camera's menu, set your Focus Mode to AF-F (Full-time servo auto-focus). Also set your AF-Area Mode to Subject-tracking AF.
This is all explained in your camera's manual.
While you can use AF-F and subject tracking while recording movies it's not really recommended. The reason is that in live view (required for shooting movies) the camera can't use it's usually focus sensors, and instead has to us "Contrast AF". The problem with contrast AF is that it can only see which way to move the focus, by trying it, hence 50% of the time it gets it wrong, and it may be slow to do it too!
Try it!
