The advice from fhotoace is solid…

If you just want the battery grip because it makes your camera look more impressive… Then give it a miss, some people complain that it makes the camera feel wrong, it can knock the balance off this won't affect your images it just makes the camera less comfortable to work with… Some of these grips aren't made to the same standards that you'd expect from Nikon and i've heard horror stories of cameras falling off tripods because the tripod screw mount on these grips isn't very good or secure.

I carry a spare battery rather than have the extra bulk of a grip… I'm used to working with grips… The only advantage they offer nowadays though is extended battery use although some people do find that they make the camera easier to grip… It's a mixed bag of opinions… View a couple of 'You Tube' reviews and make your own mind up.

Nikon certainly does not make a battery grip for the D3100.

Any third party company will have to use some kind of cord to connect to one of the cameras ports. When shooting in rain or dust, this can lead to premature camera failure

If you really, really want to use a battery grip, buy one of the Nikon's that can use one.

Doing that is as simple as looking at the Nikon dSLR cameras and look under the Accessories tab.

It should. You can always take it back if it doesn't.
