Sell my Nikon D7000 for Olympus OM-D E-M5?
I recently purchased a D7000 and I more than satisfied with the results. But when I found out about the E-M5 I was really convinced. I know the D7000 will probably slightly rule the OM-D in terms of several specs, but after using the D7000 and bringing it on vacations, I found out that the weight is in fact an issue. I like the E-M5 for its pure lightweight structure and solid performance but I'm not so convinced with its price right now.
So, should I sell my D7000 now, then wait for the E-M5's price to drop?
Is selling my camera on Craigslist a good idea? (Of course I will expect cash only)
Why don't you consider Nikon V1 or J2 mirrorless lineup?
My pro nikon friend jump to olympus already and use it for his freelance work. I'm surprised. But olympus is worth having.sony nex 7 are wroth considering, nikon as well.avoid canon eos m for now, its slow.
i love my canon, L lenses and the speedlites plus its transmitter. I can't live without them. So olympus won't be enough of a proposition for me. I'm sticking with canon and going to wait for canon mirrorless. If ever switch.
selling on craigslist are good and fast way to sell.buying new camera is my only way so far.haven't take risk on buying used. I'm sure the next olympus om will draw a real change in entry dslr market.olympus next iteration from em5 is much feared by entry to mid level dslr user. Its smarter to sell the system now.
You might look at the D3200 if the D7000 is too heavy. It is 16oz, which is 1/2lb lighter than the D7000. The OM-D is 15oz, and I doubt you will be able to tell the 1oz difference between the D3200 and OM-D.
However, DSLR lenses can be heavy, especially the higher performance ones. But if you wan the higher quality of a DSLR, you need those lenses. One option however is to buy prime lenses. A 35mm f/1.8 is pretty lightweight, and will probably be no heavier than the OM-D with a lens.
You will be sacrificing the convenience of a zoom, but you will retain the quality of a DSLR.
But if you want to sell your DSLR, I'm sure there will be many takers.
You've asked variations on the same question three times.
The D7000 is a better camera than any EVIL will ever be.
Why? The D7000 is a far better camera. You can get used to the weight. I used to carry a Nikon F3-HP around with me.
If weight is that critical, you might want to consider the E-PL5.It has the same sensor as the OM-D E-M5.It lacks some features like the built-in viewfinder, and it has a less sophisticaled in-body image stabilization. It could be affordable enough to supplement rather than replace your D7000. If you sell your D7000, you are going to take a loss on it anyway.
