Nikon d7000 Auto Focus Problems

Just got a brand new Nikon d7000 less than a week ago and today all of a sudden out of the blue the AutoFocus does not work. Won't focus and if you try and press the shutter it won't take pics either. Manual focus works fine. What is going on? Any suggestions on what might have happened!

I'm using the Nikon d7000 with the 18-105mm VR lens. Both the auto focus button on the camera and on the lens are clicked to auto focus but it won't work. If I switch the buttons to manual it works fine. Brand new camera… Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Added (1). Bought the camera online with a return policy of less than 200 shutter actuation's… I've gone past that. But I have a 2 year warranty for it so…

Card is in… Did not format it although I've been shooting with the card for the past 3-4 days with everything working okay.

Added (2). Both switches on both the camera and lens are switched to A - Auto.

Everything is set the same on the camera today as it was last night when it was working fine. Tried taking lens off and putting it back on… All switches are switched to Auto on… Tried resetting the camera to factory settings… Checked for all autofocus lock options in the menu and the lock switch on the camera as well… Is there anything else perhaps that I can try?

Brand new and less than a week? If it still fails to AF, get the box and everything that came in it then rush back to the store you bought it from and ask for a replacement. Do not forget to bring the sales receipt. Hurry. Returns are only for a week or so.

Before you return it… Remove the lens & see if the contacts are clean. Then put the lens back on and see if that corrects the problem.

There are times when a camera can't auto-focus.

* when you have it in the manual focus mode (lens and or camera) - which is not your problem.
* when it is too dark to focus and you do not have the focus assist lamp enabled

Nikon cameras by default will not let the shutter release work if 1) the camera is in the auto-focus mode and the lens can't focus, 2) if there's no memory card in the camera and 3) if the memory card is full.

Did you remember to format the card in the camera before using the card?

Do you know that there's a switch on the body that turns autofocus off or on? This is so the camera can switch between manual and auto using the AF-D lenses that link to the camera's autofocus drive.
If it is switched off turn it on. Does that solve the problem?
