Nikon D40 Skate Shots?

I have been doing skate photography for about a month now and I want to know how I can get the best out of my camera. I have a 18-55 mm lens and a normal zoom lens. What else would i need to get the best shots. Any techniques I can try for indoor skate parks? I'm just wanting to know anything i can do for better shots. If you want to see my current shots. Not impressed with the skate shots - your portraiture work is far better!

One thing you can do is to invest in an off camera speedlight, stand & triggers (an YN560, light stand and RF602 triggers would set you back about £75).

This will allow you to blend ambient & flash & freeze motion. You can position the lights where you want for drama & the radio tigger will fire them off camera.

This is the sort of thing I did outdoors (BMX'ers not skaters but same principle);

and this was done indoors with parkour runners training;

The D40 has the advantage of a hybrid shutter, so you are not quite so restricted with a flash sync speed as other DSLR's. This means you can knock down the ambient outdoors more easily.

Many people use a super wide angle lens on their cameras and mount the camera on a special cradle or caddie with a remote shutter release.

The Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control can be velcroed to the top of the caddie for easy access.
