Camera Setup for motocross?
Is this camera setup good for taking shots of action sports such as motocross, football and snowboarding? I want the extra 55-300 lens because I don't plan on getting right up close to some of the action like the motocross, but I'm new to cameras so I don't know if this setup is good or not.
The camera only shoots 4fps and the 55-300 has a f/4.5-5.6. Not sure if thats good or not?
I shoot motocross almost every weekend.
All you have to do is make sure that your shutter speed is set to 1/500th second or faster.
Samples:
I use an AF-S 18-200 mm lens and from one position on the course, I can shoot three corners, one jump and two straightaways.
I NEVER shoot in the burst mode. I know the course and know how to time my shots, one shot at a time
The camera & the lenses are good & will give you the images you want.
for freezing the action you need a fast shutter speed. Try 1/1000 to 1/2500, take some shots & see the results.
for a blurry photos (will keep the action in live) use S mode for Nikon, TV mode for Canon (shutter priority mode) & you need a slow shutter speed, try 1/30 up to 1/60. All is good.follow the action to blur the background & the motor will still sharp.
have fun.
