Hi! I've been shooting film since the beginning of the summer and i feel like i'm ready to move up to a dslr in time for christmas. I primarily shoot skateboarding, but i also shoot a lot of general photography. I've been looking at cameras such as the Nikon D5000 and Canon Rebel T3i. To cameras such as the Canon 50D and the Nikon D90. Which one would you recommend for me? Also, what lenses? I already know to buy a Rokinon/Opteka/Pro-Optic/Bower lenses(They're all the same) And a 35mm or 50mm lens. Is a zoom lens necessary?

You can get any model from any brand. Your budget and brand affinity will dictate what you get.No, zoom lenses are not necessary. Usually, you pick from the same brand as your film camera but if you don't intend to use your old film lenses then pick any out there.

If you have a nikon film camera, it might make sense to get a nikon dSLR (or vice versa if you have an eos canon)

unless your budget is limited, you should avoid rokinon/opteka/bower, etc.

Only you will be able to decide if a zoom lens is necessary (although for skateboarding I would imagine you would want a zoom lens - I know I would).
