I'm new to photography and I have a nikon d70s. I have no idea how to switch the long exposure thingy back to it's auto mode. When i half press it the beep sound is not in there and it doesn't focus.

Do you not have the owner's manual? If not, it is available online. Or, you can go to a bookstore or your library and likely get an instructional book for your camera that is much easier to read and use than is the owner's manual.

Or… You can direct your question to a knowledgable photography forum like Reddit's "r/photography":

Your question doesn't make much sense I'm afraid.
What is the "long exposure thingy"?

Turn the knob on the top of the camera to A.

Put the lens on AF.

Bulb mode? Set the mode dial back to Auto.

Self-timer? Turn self-timer off.

Read Manuel. He is your best friend.

OK, I understand that you're a novice, just beginning and you lack understanding of correct terms (photography jargon). Do you have the Instructions Manual? If not, you can easily either download it or print it from the Internet, or you can try getting a copy of it from B&H, or from Nikon USA. You need to read the Instructions Manual and acquaint yourself with the camera parts, featrues and options represented by the buttons and knobs on the camera bodyand in the back screen, the menu of features you'll find there for setting your camera to your personal preferences. Once you do this, you'll start figuring out solutions to minor problems.

What exactly are you referring to, the lens stays open for a longer time then usual, or the time it takes for the shutter to go off (because it is on timer)? On your camera body, look at the knob on the left hand side andell us what the notch-indicator is pointing to and also tell us what the bottom of that knob is also indicating. Can you find on the top right side screen what the shutter speed is? THAT might be set to a long exposure. Check the Instructions manual because there's a two-button combination that may set everything back to default; then, it's a matter of using the top, left side knob to set it to Auto. (In fact, check NOW to see if the top, left knob is indicating Auto; do not confuse the "A" and "Auto." "A" is for aperture priority where you would select the size aperture you want and the camea would set the shutter speed; "Auto" is what you wish to use now, so the camera makes all the settings for exposure for you). Maybe we can solve this here.
