You don't get 'hate comments' on here, the few people who think that some contributors are out of order in this category are just kids who can't quite grasp that they are actually getting good honest advice the problem is that they don't like it.

It isn't sensible to buy a camera based on it's price unless you have a really limited budget and can't afford any of the alternatives, the most sensible way to choose a camera that is suited for you is to work out what you need from the camera, is weatherproofing, frames per second, buffer size, twin memory card slots important?

After you have compiled a list of cameras that meet your requirements then give the local camera store a visit and handle the different options, you'll prefer one camera more than the others and that's probably the best direction to go in.

It is really important to understand that just because you spend more on an expensive camera it WILL NOT spit out better shots, that's your responsibility.

The Nikon D7000 is good value and has a pretty decent spec, it's an enthusiast level camera capable of top quality images.

Here's a list of all DSLRs under $1,200: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...rtclk=sort

Here's a list of new pro DSLR's under $2,000 - NONE. Pro DSLRs start at about $6,900.

Here's a list of used pro DSLRs under $2,000: https://www.keh.com/search/list?n=128&category%5B%5D=Bodies&mfg%5B%5D=Canon&mfg%5B%5D=Nikon&price_min=1000&price_max=2000

The best bodies from your list: It's toss up between the D7100 and the 70D. However, the Pentax K3 is better than either one. http://www.dpreview.com/...=pentax_k3

All of them are good, but they are just tools. It's the photographer who makes amazing photographs.

I only know Nikon.

Professional grade cameras start around $3000 new. Currently, D810 and D4 are considered professional. D610 and D750, and to certain extent Df are considered enthusiast grade. They are all above $2000 mark. They are also full frame, so lens will cost more. (a lot more)

Is this your first DSLR? If so, I suggest D5200 or something similar. There aren't much difference in terms of picture quality between lowest of Nikon D3200 to the highest D4. No matter which one you have, you'll take exactly the same picture.

The difference is, how quickly you can change the setting, how it'll perform in EXTREME situations (which you won't see), and how fast they work. Unless you are into professional sport photography, D5200 is quite sufficient. If you want something little better, D7100 is good, too.

Please forget the notion that better camera will allow you to get better pictures, or cheaper camera won't give you good picture. That's not true at all. To use better camera to its full capacity and end up with better product, you need to be highly skilled. You won't get there for good many years. By then, top of the line today will be worse than the cheapest you can buy at that time.

I have no idea about Canon.

By the way, don't worry about Mega Pixel ratings. Anything higher than 16 is basically a waste unless you intend to print very large. I have enlarged 12 mp image to 16x24 and larger. They are quite acceptable. I'm now printing more than 30 inches across. THAT, I'm using a "better" camera. You won't be doing that, would you?
