Can you buy nikon compatible receivers for the SU 800?

I have a SU 800 wireless transmitter and a SB600 flash. I'm looking for a cheap alternative so that I do not have to buy another Nikon flash. I have an old SB 24 and I was wondering if I could just put a receiver on that?

Would that be okay? To use a receiver on a SB 24 with a SU 800?

I have looked up receivers and only came across the MiniTTI and Flex by Pocketwizard. They show the usage of the SU 800, but on top of a MiniTTI or Flex. Is it possible to just buy a receiver and use it with the SU 800 to trigger the SB 24?

You need something compatible with Nikon's iTTL system, and IR capable. The SU800 is an IR system, while the PocketWizard is an RF system.

Therefore you need both parts of the PocketWizard; the Mini TTi and the TTi Flex. And at over $600, it is not a cost effective solution to use with your SB24.

The going rate for a SB24 is around $35 on eBay, so why not sell the SB24 and Buy a SB700.It will be far cheaper than buying the PocketWizard.

The only advantage of the PocketWizard is it is RF, and the SU800 is IR, so the PocketWizard's range is longer. And since the SU800 needs to be line-of-sight due to the IR signal, it is a bit more limited than the PocketWizard.

In the photo you see with the PocketWizard and SU800 is probably due to using both systems simultaneously. For instance, if you bought the PocketWizard, and only bought one Flex for the SB24, you would have to use your SU800 on top of the PocketWizard to continue to use your SB600 - or you would have to buy a second Flex for the SB600 and sell your SU800.
