Why does my Nikon j1 only shoot for 2 minutes at a time?

I make videos on youtube and I finally bought a new camera for better quality which is a nikon j1 only problem is when I shoot a video it films for 2 minutes and then stops. Why is it doing that? Can I fix it? It's a brand new camera.

First it doesn't "film", it records video. Digital cameras don't use film.

Did you format the memory card in the camera?
Is it a class 10 card or the fastest available in your style?

Some cameras have time limits for video. Verify that on the user's manual.

Check also your memory card and make sure it is Class 10. This will ensure that the memory card is fast enough in saving the huge HD video file. Formatting the memory card before doing video will make the saving process faster and less complicated for the camera.

Sometimes it's just the memory card. If the card is Class 10 and the camera should be able to record for more than 2 minutes, buy another Class 10 memory card but this time from a reputable store. Hopefully the next one will work better.

I can get nearly 20 minutes out of my V1. Make sure you are using a fast SD card, such as a Class 10 or U1.
