What settings do I set on manual SLR film camera for night?

I have a Nikon FM2 film camera, and the film is Ilford HP5 plus 400 Black & White.

I'm taking photographs of Christmas Lights in the dark, and I'm wondering what settings will I need to set for these photographs.

Added (1). EDIT: This is for college work as to relate to the theme of Time & Place, which I will also produce photograms onto these photographs of christmas lights.

The Nikon FM2 has a light meter - we don't know what lighting conditions you are shooting under.

Don't forget that when shooting long exposures with film (longer than a couple of seconds or so), you need to account for reciprocity failure with film. You should have (or be able to Google) a reciprocity chart for HP5+.

You need to put the camera on a tripod, open the F Stop to let more light in, and set a timer.

You will need to bracket your shots by time. After they are developed then you need to go back and shoot more pics at or near the same setting and bracket more pics.

Using a film speed at 1600 is also good. Since you are using a 400 ASA/ISO you can change the setting to 1600, but your pictures will come out grainy. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Why are you shooting Christmas lights in B&W?

It's actually rather difficult to meter for this situation. You'll want to zone system it, so spot meter off the lights, to give around +3 or +4 EV.

Firstly, A good tripod.
Set the camera to either AV (aperture priority)
Select an aperture of about f4 or 5.6. Check that the shutter speed which the camera will automatically select is within its range. If not, select a smaller aperture.
Take the photo but it might take a few seconds of exposure… Hence the tripod.

One last thing; is it worth taking Christmas lights with a B&W film?
