What's Nikon's equivalent model to Canon Rebel T4I?

Probably the Nikon D5200.

I'd guess the D5200.

I agree the Nikon D5200
Nikon has a better sensor and AF system though.
Also if you're a budget film maker, Nikon offers full HDMI output.

The Pentax equivalent is the K-30, and it's a cracker (Pentax were making SLRs while Canon and Nikon were copying German rangefinders).

True probably the D5100, D5200. But honestly at this price neither is a stunner. The D5100 beats them all, it had the better image sensor.
For this kind of money, nothing beat the Pentax K30. For heavy video work, the Sony A57 beats them all.
Ignore links to DxOmark.com unless you know how to read or interpret the data. The up front numbers for low light are not real.
