What camera to suit me?

I'm 16, i go to a collage where i do a course which is art based. It also includes and used photography. I also take photo's as my hobbies.
i'm looking for a camera for my present for christmas off my mum, and i'm willing to add my own money in too.

i'm looking for something which is going to last, i don't mind adding extra money if it means i'm not going to have to replace it soon or upgrade it.

what camera's would you recommend?
i've went to local shops and they have recommended Nikon's and cannons which i agree.
they have suggested the nikon D500
and the D5000- with the swivel screen.

Any Canon or Nikon are good cameras!

I have a Canon t1i (500d) and it's amazing.

A canon with a swivel screen is the Canon 60d. Also very good! But more expensive.
It all depends on your preference and experience.
I would go look at these cameras online and look at the features.
