Torn between a Remington and a Savage?
I'm looking to buy my first hunting rifle (.270 for mostly white-tail), and I'm torn between a Remington 700 ADL and a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP.
I like the Savage because it comes with a Nikon scope, whereas the Remington has a lower quality scope. On the other hand, the Remington 700 has a great reputation and is apparently a wonderful rifle. Both are about the same price. If it were you, which one would you get, and why?
Thanks in advance! Here are the links to the guns.

You could always purchase the Remington and get a different scope to put on it. My husband's rifle is a Remington (and he loves it btw), but he put a Nikon scope on it. Probably don't help, but just a suggestion. I would just go with whichever gun you felt more comfortable with and which gun you felt more comfortable shooting. Good luck! And if it was me, I would personally probably buy the Remington because you can always purchase a different scope for the gun. If the Remington has better reviews, you like it better, and it is overall a better gun, but the scope is the only problem, I would personally just purchase the Remington and buy a Nikon scope or whatever scope you wanted for the gun. (I like Nikon personally). Just my opinion.
I'm an unabashed fan of Savage rifles. In general, you get more for your money out of a Savage than you do with a Remington. In fact, Savage started the trend of adjustable triggers because their Accu-Trigger was so much better than any of the non-adjustable triggers on competitors' rifles. Then there's their real-world reputation for stunning accuracy straight out of the box, no modifications needed.
So my suggestion is the Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP. It will do everything you need and will be a higher quality rifle, in my opinion, than the Remington 700 ADL package.
Hard to go wrong with either one BUT I too am a fan of Savage Rifles, great out of the box accuracy, value for the money and I've had fantastic experience with their customer service department.
Well… EYE bought mine ( traded… Actually) because I kept noticing that a lot of knowledgeable people on here, were constantly recommending them. I went with the 11 in 308… Partly because it is so versatile and easy to get. ( here, i can get Nato ball ammo… Fairly cheap ) You can always buy just the rifle, then put your choice of scope, on it, right? Personally, I liked the features and the trigger is good as well. Both are fine rifles… You can't go wrong with either one.
Can't say anything about savage, but I have a Remington.270 and I absolutely LOVE it
You can never go wrong with Remington 700. However, out of the box, the Savage will give you more bang for your buck based on the accu-trigger alone.
The scope will likely be the first thing you change about the rifle regardless.
