Red dot vs Scope for Deer for shotgun?

I'm looking at a couple of scopes and I can't really decide what would be best. I'm between a Nikon 2-7 power, a leupold 2-7x and a bushnell 2 power red dot. I'll be putting it on a mossberg 500 for deer hunting. I'm mainly in woods, taking few shots over 100 yards. Here are the choices http://www.opticsplanet.com/bushnell-2x-mp-tactical-illuminated-red-dot-sight.html http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-vx-i-2-7x33mm-shotgun-rifle-scope.html or http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-riflescope-prostaff-2-7x32.html I'm aware the red dot says for AR, but the info includes shotguns also. Don't give me that "It's your preference" because I will not try all of them, it's one or the other so voice your opinion, Thanks!

I have / have used both types. For screwing around with, a red dot is OK but if I was out hunting… I want something that will be a great benefit in getting an animal… A traditional variable scope fills the bill.

I know you are asking for a shot gun but i have used a red dot on a crossbow and it is very inaccurate. If you don't have that dot perfectly in the middle you will be a good ways off. I would much rather shoot with a traditional scope. But if you get a scope make sure it has the ticks on the bottom cross hair. These tell you how far your shot will go. These help a lot during deer season when that monster comes strolling through!

I used both during the Illinois firearm deer season at various times.a lot depends on how you hunt. If you are a deer driver and quick target acquisition is needed go with the 1 or 2 power red dot and keep both eyes open. If you are a stand hunter and you have more time to plan your shot the 2x7 is an excellent choice for woodlot hunting. I used the 2x7 wideview bushnell on a rem 1100.zeroed to 80 yards.both are excellent choices but tailor it to your particular style of hunting
