Recently bought a Nikon d3300 and a polymer sheet for a diy solar lens filter for my lens. Will using this damage my DSLR light sensor?

Are there certain setting I should use to prevent damage? ( like a closed appature)?

No, it's fine.
BTW, if the aperture was closed, you wouldn't get an exposure at all. Good thing the aperture can never be completely closed.
