Panasonic G7 or Nikon D5300 for video?
I'm getting into youtube and looking to invest for a camera, these are the 2 that I'm deciding on or maybe the D3400 from nikon. 4K doesent matter to me 1080p at 60 fps does. Which one of these cameras would be better for video?
Panasonic G7
Nikon are very bad for video, and Panasonic slightly better, but a camcorder would blow either of them out of the water for a lower price.
Both are still image capture devices that happen to have a secondary convenience feature that allows for video capture.
The G7 does 4k and the D5300 does not.
Before I answer the question, I need to know:
1) Which external mic(s) or external audio field recording system you plan to use;
2) Which lighting system(s) you plan to use;
3) Your plans for continuing to work when these cameras automatically power down from overheating (some friends have 2-3 of the same camera - one in use while the others cool down);
4) Video editing application, computer manufacturer and computer model (and RAM and amount of available hard drive space on EXTERNAL hard drives…
The video capture device is just one of many parts that need to work together…
Use a camcorder.
The dSLR was never meant to do video. If you want a better option than the G7, which is still a digital camera like the D5300, get the right tool for video, a digital camcorder, like the Sony Handycam.
