Nikon D7200 photos have gone missing on the camera?

My father has lost photos off his camera, either by accidentally deleting them or they have become hiding somewhere on the camera if that is at all possible? The camera memory still says the same as what it was on before but have not managed to find any of the photos? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information, is it possible that my dad could of clicked on format the memory card and that would of wiped the photos off the camera? As we have tried taken the card out and putting it in to the card reader but that comes up a blank? Why would the camera still show that the memory is the same as it was before?

Yes, if you format the card, the files will no longer be shown in the file directory. But formatting doesn't remove files. All formatting does is tell the file system that all of the space on the card is available to be written to, that's all. So the area on disk that a file occupies is now considered "free space" by the camera. Just as long as the data has not been overwritten, you can use file recovery software to retrieve the data.

For now, do NOT use that memory card until you attempt to recover those images

You can download free image recovery programs. One good one is Transcends RecoveRx.

The recovered image files will be copied to a file folder on the computer. Your dad will also need to use a card reader while doing the image recovery process.

Now, in the future, your father needs to get into the habit of copying all of the images from his memory card to a new file folder named for the date, subject, and location and the end of each shooting day.

Once all the images are safely on the computer, he needs to reinsert the memory care into the camera and use its format feature to format the card. This will also make new file folders on the card.

If he does this routinely, this will never happen again. He also needs to forget that there's a delete button on the camera. This button is probably the main cause of lost images due to either accidentally deleting the wrong image files or by eventually causing the card to become fragmented which can cause image corruption

The D7200 has two memory slots. If the camera was loaded with two memory cards, perhaps the images are on the other memory card. On my D7000, sometimes the camera firmware gets confused and images end up on the wrong memory card.

Download Recuva. It's free.

In the meantime, don't use the memory card anymore to increase the chances of getting back those photos.

Ask yourslef these questions. 1) did i take my sdcard out of my camera? 2) did i forget to slide across its write protect so nasty can alter its contents? 3) did i put it in apc that might have nasties waiting to hide my stuff? Most likely your pictures now have the HIDDEN attribute set on them. Never ever ever insert and sdcard into a pc without first sliding across the cards write protect. To find out, and to undo the attribute is now tricky cos your pc is infected. With the write protect on, insert the card into a pc, and note its drive letter eg G: start a dos box, and type in dir/s/ah g: and see if they appear. If they do you can copy their whole folder and its contents to your c: drive using XCOPY/S/H G:\ C:\mycopy once you have a copy of them you can unhide them using ATTRIB/s c:\mycopy\*.* -H check them all then put your card back in the camera and full format it and never take it out again. As for the pc well its still infected with malware.

Try to connect the camera to pc and then unhide the system protected file and then show hidden files

I have used the free program recuva with success. Just pop the memory card in your laptops card reader and do a "deep scan". Photos will only save to laptop/computer and not to the sd card. Then format the card in the camera. This makes the sd card like new and quite empty so make sure you back up your photos to another source like a cd or dvd or flash drive.

System Mechanic Professional has a recover deleted data feature.
I have tested it on a memory card after deleting photos & it pulled photos back out of it.
