My Nikon J1 keeps turning off?

Everytime I go to change the shutter speed/aperture/pop up the flash, lately it's just been shutting off. I'd have to take the battery out and put it on the charger for a few minutes, and then put the battery back in. It isn't that the battery is dead, and I don't know what to do. It is new and hasn't really been used that much. Should I just see about claiming a warranty (that hopefully my mom bought, don't know though.)

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have suggestions as to how I should fix it?

You are only putting the battery in the charger for a few minutes but you don't think that it is dead? The battery needs to be in the charger until the light says it is charged, nothing else will do.

After that, then yes, have it replaced/repaired under warranty.

Yes, check into the warranty because there's something there that you can't fix. That or call Nikon or both.

Check the warrant period. If it is still under warranty, get it fixed. If it is no longer under warranty, then it is probably time to get it checked and serviced. (which you will have to pay for.) You may also just need a new battery. You should always have a spare battery, fully charged, anyway.

First thing to look at is your charging time - The battery usually takes 2-3hrs to fully charge from empty. Charge it for 3 hrs then try again.
If you still have the problem then most likely your battery is dead. Rechargeable batteries normally give between 200 and 300 charge/discharge cycles but some die very quickly after 10 or 20.
Buy a new battery. - It is always useful to have a spare.
