Is my Tamron 17-50 lens normal or faulty?
I've just got the Tamron 17-50mm VC lens. When i move it or shake it lightly, there's something inside moving or loosen. Is it supposed to be like that? I have Nikon 18-105mm, Nikon 70-300mm and Nikon 35mm. Nothing is "moving" inside them when i shake them lightly. It feels solid inside.
So, i tried the Tamron lens on my camera. It can do focusing, but during focusing, from the viewfinder, i can see that the "view" shifted or move or shake a bit. When it focused on something, the view doesn't "move" anymore.
The definition of move/shake is up and down / left and right, not front and backwards.
Please let me know, so i can return it to the store for an exchange.
Do you have stabilizer on? (IS or VR etc)
Actually I own a Tamron 18-200 and so far my feeling is Tamron isn't the sharpest pencil in the box.
I would say you need to contact them and send it back for repair or replacement - that is not normal.
Better yet, get your money back and buy a Nikon lens instead.
I'm fairly sure there's nothing wrong with your new lens. I have the original 17-50mm f/2.8… Not the VC version, so it's different to yours. However, I do have the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM and it makes little internal noises when it is moved around a bit. That's the IS.
So, those noises you are hearing is most likely the VC (Vibration Control). And, also when you focus, it's probably just the VC at work. Apparently this len's VC noise is quite loud (when compared to Canon's IS and even maybe Nikon's VR lenses).
But, if you're still worried you should of course return it. But, I'm betting that if you do get it replaced, it will be exactly the same as the first one…
