I'm looking to get a camera. Preferably Nikon.semi professional?

I'm looking to get my first good camera. I love photography and would rather take my kids pictures myself than paying hundreds of dollars for someone else to take. I don't want to pay more than 600sense i have no idea what i'm doing. And what about different lenses. What do each do?

Find a dealer and look at entry-level DSLRs - the 18-55mm generally included is enough to get you started.
Handle a couple of candidates before you make your final choice - Nikon are no better and no worse than any of their competitors.

The only "semi-pro" Nikon cameras are the D7000 and D800
What you may really want is an entry level camera like the Nikon D3200.It has the latest technology and costs under $1, 000, actually $700.It comes with the 18-55 mm lens.
Here is a link to all the available lenses for that camera, but remember it uses the AF-S Nikkor lenses.

Well 600 is a preety big amount anyway, you can get a DSLR for that price.
