How long does a speed light last? (Nikon SB910)?
Does anyone know how long the life of a speed light is in general? I'm planning on buying Nikon SB910, is it good?
You can buy 20 year old speedlights on ebay that are still working well. It should last for years!
Compared to the SB900 the SB910 has a thermal cutout to prevent overheating the flash. Overheating is probably the number one killer of a speedlight, and the SB900 could almost melt-down due to over-use.
The SB910 does not have that issue.
I'm not sure why you are asking this question…
Flash typically lasts very long time. Certainly, they can last longer than cameras they are designed for becomes obsolete. SB910 is a very advanced flash designed for current line of DSLRs. Also, it has plenty of protection inside it that if it gets too hot, it slows down first, then shuts down until it cools.
I have one. I like it. I also have SB700. It's pretty much the same with little less power and less zoom range.
