I need a faster lenses for low light concert photography.any suggestions?

I'm in need of a faster lenses for taking photographs in low light. I'm not a fan of flash photography but I often shoot in low light. Lately I have been taking photos of local bands… Who come out blurry in my shots. I have a nikon D300. I'm also a college student, so I can't afford something too expensive.

I will happy to have any tips or suggestions.

As stupid as it sounds, with a low budget, a tripod may have to do. Otherwise I could recommend a 50mm f1.8 or a 28mm f2.8 for a wider angle.

28mm is 275.95 at amazon

The bigger the aperature the better (smaller number)

Not really an answer, just an idea: I've used old manual 135mm F:2.8 on Pentax platform. It was quite fun except for the fact that you have to use your eyes to focus…

I shoot low light concerts and theatre without flash, and I use a 50mm f/1.4, an 85mm f/1.8, and a 70-200 f/2.8L. You don't mention what ISO you are shooting at, but you could try bumping it up (depending on how your camera handles noise).

Unfortunately, fast lenses do not come cheap (for the most part). I would suggest a 50mm f/1.8 and an 85mm f/1.8 ($550 to $2, 400 for both, depending on which models you get).

I would avoid any "import/gray market" Nikon lenses though as Nikon will not warranty or repair them should anything happen.

I have a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8.It's about the cheapest Nikon pro lens in that range. You can also look at a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

But even then at f/2.8, you may need a bit of help.

You can up the ISO and remove some noise with Photoshop Lightroom. It has one of the better noise-reduction processes.

Also if you have a consumer lens, one with a variable aperture, try using it at a shorter focal length. For instance if you have a 70-300 f/4~f/5.6, you can perhaps zoom out to 200mm and still be at f/4.5.

I used to do that with Lightroom for hockey photos before I bought the 80-200mm f/2.8.

There's only one answer to this, and it is the 50mm 1.8. I'm a canon user, but i'm pretty sure this is the cheapest lens in the nikon lens series. And i can guarantee you it will be the sharpest lens in your arsenal. And if you are into low light street photography like me it will definitely be your favorite lens until you can afford a 24-70 2.8.
