Will it hurt my Nikon D90 to carry the 70-200mm using the camera body?
I recently purchased a Nikon 70-200mm, 2.8 VRI and the lens is quite heavy compared to any other lens I have used. I heard rumors that carrying the lens using just the camera body might hurt the lens mount ring due to the weight of the lens, but I have also heard that it will not. Main thing I was concerned about was I shoot sports a lot, and when I hang the camera on my shoulder for a rest, would it hurt the camera to hang free supporting the weight of the lens.
Thanks in advance,
any help would be very much appreciated.
I used to hang my Canon 5D Mark II on my shoulder with the 70-200 2.8, when I brought it in for a tune up one day they told me that the lens mount ring had been loosened quite a bit and they had to tighten it up for me. I was lucky that the lens didn't come off while it was hanging.
I actually strongly recommend a black rapid rs7 strap. Believe me, it's amazing. The thought of it at first is pretty horrifying but it's stable as can be. Your camera won't fall and it'll come in hella useful. I use one all the time now.
