What editing software is best for a (beginer) pro photographer?

I just bought a nikon D3000 and have been toying around with it. I really feel like this will be a great camera for the beginning of my carrier. My question is what editing software will give me professional level pictures for a studio and outdoors? Also what are some essentials that i will need? (tripod etc.)

Ok, well first of all it's a little hard to be a pro and a beginner at the same time. Not impossible, but unusual. Having a pro camera doesn't make you a pro photographer. Second of all, "carrier" is spelled "career".

But anyway, for software I would recommend Photoshop Elements, or Corel Paintshop Pro. Of course Photoshop CS5 is the best, but it's not really necessary for a beginner and it costs major $.

Also, the editing software isn't what makes the photos "professional", that would be your skill with a camera. Editing is just for touch ups.

As for other essentials, a tripod is always useful, but what you need will depend on what you're primarily planning on photographing. For example a macro lens is essential for decent macro photos, etc. For studio shots you'd most likely need lights and reflectors and stuff, but I honestly shoot in mostly natural light so I don't know much about lighting.

The industry standard is photoshop.

Professional images are made by people that have studied photography to a professional level.

ViewNX / 2, Nik Color Efex Pro, Capture NX 2,
check some of the suggested accessories for that camera,

and check with user groups, via camera.photography sites,

You can trial various programs before you buy, and there may be other tools to go with computer fo calibrating images to print, Photoshop is nice, but not always what you want, some prefer Lightroom, some opt for Elements, search around for others,

Adobe Lightroom. It has everything you need for basic adjustment of photos and is very streamlined in workflow. It also serves as a good organizer. No software is going to make pro images for you, thats going to take a lot of practice, 5-10 years just to begin.
