Should I take a good camera overseas?

Okay, I'm in a little bit of a pickle. I'm a senior in high school and our class is going to China for this travel club thing. I have a Nikon d5100, its a dslr camera with its standard lens. I'm just indecisive on whether i should bring it or not. It will allow me to take nice pictures and stuff, but i would have to be carrying it around most of the time and its pretty big.
Would it be better if i just brought a small standard digital camera?
What do you think?

I think you should just bring a small one. Your taking pictures either way, its just that with a smaller one, its a smaller risk of getting it lost, etc.

Absolutely, a light weight, easy to pack/store, less expensive digital camera.
You do realize that you can purchase a camera in China much cheaper than probably anywhere else. Even a Japanese camera, if that's your preference.
