Nikon DSLR that will Autofocus with AF Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 lens?

I would like to purchase a Nikon DSLR that's compatible with my Dad's old AF Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 lens and I'm on a budget. I don't think it's worth it to purchase a Nikon DSLR body unless it will autofocus with this lens. I know that it won't autofocus with the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, etc.

The Nikon that will use the older AF Nikkor lenses are the D100, D90, D80, D700, D200, D300 and all the D3 series cameras.

Those cameras you listed use the ultra-fast auto-focus AF-S Nikkor if you want to shoot using auto focus.

For decades, photographers manually focused their cameras. It was a skill that you too can learn.

And the D50 - which was the only entry level Nikon to have an autofocus motor. The D70 has an autofocus motor too. I only mention these as you can still find these cameras used, if that is what you are looking for.

By the way, that is a great lens. Unless it is the old push-pull zoom version, you can get $700 bucks for it used. If it is the push-pull, then $500. Not bad for a lens that has been around awhile.

While you could sell the lens, it costs $2, 300 or more to replace it with the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8.
