Nikon d3200 battery life problem?

I have got a nikon d3200 from 2 days. I charged it in the first time for about 2 hours but it didn't take more than 80 shots using the viewfinder and about 30% of them using flash. And the same in the 2nd time!

It's stated that aprox, 540 shots can be taken on a full charge.

This is NOT including use of 'Live View' or 'flash' exposures. If you are far out of that range, check the menu for 'battery info'. That could supply you with further information as to it's charging/holding charge condition overall. It may need to be replaced. Or. At the outside, the body is faulty and is having an excessive power drain which would require service.

Sounds like a problem I had with a new Nikon camera -- the charger was bad, not actually charging the battery. Did the light on the charger blink for a while and then stop blinking to indicate that the battery was charged? If not, you need a new charger. If the charger is OK, a bad battery is possible, even though the camera is new. Of course, using the flash frequently is the largest battery user on your camera.

When you charge, you do it overnight to be absolutely sure the battery gets full power. Two hours is not enough. Even when the light indicator says finished, allowing the charger to continue will trickle charge the battery for maximum power. When the full limit is reached, the charger will go off automatically.
