My Nikon D3100's flash won't function anymore
We used it yesterday and it was already low battery but we still took some pictures and after, we noticed that it won't flash anymore. We used AUTO setting but still it won't flash. What should I do?
I won't work if there's not enough battery to power it. Once you have recharged the battery, put it in P for program mode and push the flash button to open it. If it still doesn't work then you will have to contact Nikon.
If it is broken and too expensive to repair, buy an SB-400 external flash unit, which will give you more flexibility anyway as it can be used for bounce flash.
You know battery is low. Why wonder if the flash doesn't work? Try recharging the battery to full power then try again. That's the most logical thing to do first. AUTO does not have anything to do with it!
If you read the manual, you'll see that when the battery gets too low, Nikon cameras shut down the flash. When the battery gets even lower, the shutter will stop working. When it gets even lower, the camera either won't turn on or will come one for a few seconds and then shut down. Time to recharge the battery.
