My camera lens broke

I have a Nikon 50mm 1.4G lens on a D7000 body. The aperture slide on the the lens itself is locked halfway. I'm afraid to touch it, what do I do?

I'm unable to set up apertures, even though the camera says f/1.4.
The aperture itself is closed all the way, like when you take the lens off the camera.

Please help me.

Added (1). Yes, I do know how to use manual mode, set White Balance, and all other relevant material.

What I'm saying is that the aperture lever on the lens itself is stuck.

It seems that you are trying to use the camera/lens combination in an unorthodox way.

That lens does NOT need to be touched by you when adjusting the lens aperture. That is done using the controls on the camera.

IF you look on page 70, you will see how that all works

The only "slide" on the lens is the is. The focus mode switch which is provided for simple selection of
autofocus (A) or manual focus (M) operation

It seems that you are unclear how to use your fine camera and lens.

For now, take the lens and camera into a proper camera shop and have them show you how to use your camera and lens.

Selecting the lens aperture is discussed on page 70 of your user manual.

When you take the lens off, it should be wide open. What seems to have happened is that the lens became damaged either from an accidental hit or operator error

If all else fails, call Nikon 800. NIKON-UX

The 50mm f/1.4G doesn't have an aperture ring. The only way you can change the aperture value is to set it with the camera body.

Regarding what bluespeedbird said… The fEE error message occurs with Nikon's D lenses when the aperture ring is not locked at the MINIMUM value.

Take the lens off and see if the lug on the mount side adjusts the aperture… If it's been bent it'll not engage with the body properly. Usually, on lenses which feature aperture rings, if the aperture ring is set to anything other than wide open the error message 'FEE' shows, but if the aperture lug is bent the error message won't be displayed.

@Akuseru… Oh yeah that's what I meant… It's quite late here… I should have thought that through a bit better. On my 50mm f/1.4 it'll be locked at f/16. My mistake!

EDIT: If the lever is stuck you'll need to put the lens in for repair. Don't attempt to force it or try a fix yourself… You'll only damage it more.
