Lenses and settings for pub gig photography?
I'm a complete amateur but have enough knowledge and love shooting in manual mode etc. I have done some theatre photography with my kit lenses that came with Nikon d5000. Namely the 18-55mm and 55-200mm
However I purchased a afs 35mm 1.8 which I also love using for general stuff but I'm also considering the 50mm 1.8 too.
It's a small pub and I'm taking photos of a band. I can't afford anything more than these lenses anyway so my question is will these be okay and recommend some good settings? Is it worth getting the 50mm too? I can afford it right now so is it a worthwhile addition to my kit?
Many thanks.
Added (1). Sorry should say don't want to use flash for this band.
I've tried with kit lens before and I just can't get lighting right as too dark. Theatre photography was fine as plenty of lighting. This pub will have about 2 lights!
I do love my 35mm for portraits much prefer to my kit lens and tend to keep it on my camera most!
I think the 18-55 would be the best all around lens for most anything. If you have the 18-55 why get the 50? If it's because the 50 may be faster than the 18-55 get a bigger flash, cheaper than another lens. I wouldn't have bothered with the 35mm either but you already got it so. Learn technique and take a few hundred pictures before you try to buy out a photo store. You don't know what you're doing but are buying tons and tons of stuff you may never ever use for a lot of money - makes no sense. It's like learning to drive then getting a 500 horse power Ferrari for a 10 mile drive to work over bad roads. You needed a Jeep not the sports car, see?
