Is it better for me to buy the Canon 7D instead of the 60D?

Is it better for me to buy the 7D instead of the 60D for my first DSLR camera? I'm planning on buying my first DSLR camera but it's not my first time handling and using these cameras. I'm interested in mostly taking portraits and landscapes. Or should I wait for the Nikon D7000 to be released in my country (Singapore)?

Hmm if it were me? I would go with the 7D. Basically because its a newer model. And i'm a canon guy. So i wouldn't wait for the nikon!

If you're starting fresh I would certainly wait a bit to see what you think of the D7000. The specs and the samples are rather impressive.

Portraits and landscapes are not very demanding in terms of camera but more in terms of lenses. I would go for a cheaper camera and save some money for a good lens and a flash. Also look at the nikon d90 and the canon 50d.

The 7D has a better viewfinder and AF than the 60D, it is better constructed with a metal rather than plastic casing and retains the studio flash PC socket that the 60D has dropped.

For portraiture I'm not sure how many of these point makes a difference as most people are using wireless hotshoe triggered flash these days.

The processing engine and image device are the same (although the 7D has two image processors and a third for AF) so you should get similar if not identical image quality.

If you did any sports or nature then the 7D is probably worth the extra, if you don't, then it isn't.

Can't comment on the D7000, I'm not a nikon user and I don't know of any real life production sample reviews of the D7000.
