I need a help about cameras, about filmmaking, anyone please?
Hi, I'm a beginner filmmaker. Now I'm working on a first serious short movie. (sorry for my English). My first question is:
1) Are Canon SX 40 HS and Nikon D3100 normal cameras for short movie?
2) Will I be able to sync the videos shot by canon and nikon? Will there be any problem?
The "normal" camera for shooting movies are either motion picture cameras (16 mm or 35 mm) or some kind of video camera.
The least expensive video camera would be one that shoots Full HD video, has a 40x optical zoom and costs under $200. They are made by JVC, Panasonic, Sony and Canon. You can find such video cameras on Amazon.
The Nikon D3100 is primarily a camera used to take still images and does a very fine job. It also has a sensor that is nearly 15 times larger than any P&S camera like the Canon SX 40HS, so the actual pixels are much larger and can produce higher quality images under the same lighting conditions.
As long as you shoot using both the Canon P&S and Nikon dSLR at the same resolution and frame rate, you will be able to sync them if the file types are identical.
Both cameras can shoot at 1920 x 1080 (24fps), 1280 x 720 (30 fps) and produce MPEG-4 video files. You will then need to find a video editing program that will allow you to edit using MPEG-4 files.
NOTE: Make sure that you set the white balance to match the lighting in each scene or you will get colour mismatches no matter which camera you use.
Response in order:
1) No.
2) Yes. Possible, but since we don't know what settings each camera is using or what is being used for editing, there's no way to know if there will be any problem.
