How to fix flash in Nikon D60?

My Nikon D60 has a big problem - the flash doesn't pop up any more, it's stuck. I can't use any Manual mode because the flash works automatically in those and just flashes inside the camera, without popping up. What can I do? Is it worth sending it back to Nikon, since it has no warranty and I already sent it once with another problem, paid a lot, and a few months later this happened.

In the manual mode, your flash should not automatically open activate.

If you really do shoot a lot of flash shots, I suggest you buy an external flash like a good used SB600 or even a less expensive SB400.

When you press the button that manually opens the flash on the camera, does it open? If not, it may be that somewhere a long the line the camera was bumped hard enough to damage the mechanism.

Press the button the assist the flash module using the tip of your fingernail. It's just stuck maybe due to dust or a weak spring. Pry the flash gently until it comes up. When it does, try spraying the compartment with compressed air or just clean the edges with a cotton bud to remove dust. If the spring is done for, you may always have to assist the flash each time you need it. It's a no cost alternative to bringing and leaving your camera at Nikon.
