How do you change the f-stop on Nikon D5100?
The way the instructions that came with your camera tells you to. Stop being lazy and start reading.
Probably the same way I do on my D40. Turn the control dial on top of the camera to "A", look in the viewfinder, press the shutter half way and then rotate the wheel located where your thumb is. In the viewfinder you should see the F indicator change as you rotate it. Read the manual and it will do a more complete job of explaining the process.

Turn the dial (top of the camera) and set to A. Turn the thumb wheel to the left or to the right. You can see the f-stop changing on the viewfinder.
