Does anyone know what or how to setup the Nikon D40x to shoot time lapse photos?

Added (1). I have D5000 that has the feature but I was hoping the D40x would have that same feature as well.

You need an intervalometer. The commercial intervalometers all generally use a wired remote lead, however the D40x only has provision for a wireless remote - and those are pretty much limited to intervalometers built-into battery grips. The battery grip has an IR transmitter that points to the camera's IR receiver.

You need a computer program which controls your camera via the USB connection. Nikon's overpriced Camera Control program has an intervalometer feature which should work with your D40X.

There are free camera control programs out there which also have an intervalometer function which talk to Nikon cameras. Some work, some are finicky.

Be aware of battery drain. If you are trying to do this over a long period of time (hours), you will need a external power supply for your camera.
