Can you change exposure while recording with a Nikon D5100?

I know a lot of DSLR's allow you to turn the dial command to change the exposure while recording. I tried this with my Nikon and nothing changed. I can only change it when I'm not. Is it possible to change the settings to do this?

You need to do a work-around.
This discussion should help.

The manual should answer that but I highly suspect you can't. That would make one crazy video to watch. Dizzying even!
