Buying a Nikon D3000 from Craigslist?

I'm buying this camera locally, and it looks like its in very good condition. But its my first camera, and I wanted to know what things I should look out for. What should I like at when inspecting the camera? And what kind of things might the camera malfunction in?

Take a SD card with you and test the camera, make sure it works.
It must also come with the battery, battery charger, lens and body caps, neck strap and CD pack

1) The best thing to do is take someone with you who is familiar with DSLRs so they can test it.
2) Take along a laptop and memory card reader to look at the test shots
3) Ask why they are selling it and what all is included** and compare the price to your local camera shops and reputable vendors***
4) Look for obvious signs of "mishandling" (dents/dings/ scratches). If the lens shows signs of scratches (or worse, fungus)… Beware!
**The D3000 originally included: EN-EL9a Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery, MH-23 Battery Charger, UC-E4 USB Cable, DK-20 Rubber Eyecup, Camera Strap, BF-1A Body Cap, DK-5 Eyepiece Shield, BS-1 Hot-Shoe Cover, Software CD-ROM.
Unfortunately, there are dishonest people in the world, and if it is just a camera/lens at really good price… It may be stolen.
***Call the local camera shops to see what they sell the D3000 for. For example, B&H Photo sells a refurbished D3000 from $359.95 (camera/kit lens) to a $568.50 "kit" (includes 2 lenses, memory card, camera case, and 2 year warranty).
