Best Nikon lens for high school sports (basketball, football, etc)?

I have a 18-55mm 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Nikon Lens and the 55-135mm. Which would work best for high school sports on my Nikon D80? Mainly basketball. Also, if there are any better lenses, please, do tell!

Both of those lenses are way too slow to freeze action for indoor sports like basketball. You will need a lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or less. I use a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 for basketball.

For basketball, I use a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8 for shots from under the basket or a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 for more distant shots. Those have been my mainstays with my D200 and D300.
The main thing you need is a fast lens, because basketball gyms have relatively low light. My usual settings are to shoot in S (shutter priority) mode, with a shutterspeed of 1/500 and an ISO of 1600.
Here's some samples, both NBA and NCAA shot with those lenses and settings.
