Can I use eye glass cleaner to clean my camera lens?
I have a Nikon 70-200mm VR II IF… It was a pretty penny and I don't want to f-up the lens. Can I use my eye glass cleaner spray on the lens of my camera and wipe it with the microfiber cloth?
NO, NO, NO
The lenses on cameras have special coatings that can be damaged by the eye glass cleaners
In addition, NEVER put any lens cleaner (the special cleaner made for photographic lenses) directly on the lens. The worst thing that could happen is that even the proper lens cleaning fluid can get into the lens itself cause other problems maybe three or four years of applying fluids directly on the lenses element
Do what the pros do.
* use a microfiber cloth
* swallow all your saliva and then breath on the lens to create a fog on the lens
* gently clean the lens with the microfiber cloth
* put a UV filter on the lens to keep from needing to clean the lens again for a long time
Besides NOT dropping your camera, keeping the front element of the lens protected from sticky fingers, mud and other things that require cleaning of the lens.
NOTE: I have some Kodak lens cleaner that I bought decades ago and it still works. So saving a few pennies by buying eye glass cleaner is false economy.
You can with some, but check the compatibility on the package to make sure it can. For instance, some Carl Zeiss wipes are intended for both camera optics and eyeglasses.

NEVER use any cleaning fluid on a lens until you have tried everything else - at which point take it to a repair shop to let them do it.
Use a lens pen or a dry microfibre cloth. I prefer lens pen.
DON'T EVEN THINK IT!
